About the Winter Festival

The Winter Festival (Port and Wine Festival) is the oldest festival in the Western Cape. Its uniqueness is not only in the fact that its format has adapted over the years, but that its sole purpose is the celebration of the produce of Kannaland (people, products and culture). The festival is not well funded and is organised solely by the villagers under the direction of the local tourism office. It has morphed itself into a a real village festival, welcoming of locals and visitors alike. Things you might expect to find at the festival:

  • Rieel dancing
  • Draad Karretjies
  • Story-telling
  • Local music
  • Donkey car and tractor schuttles
  • Well organised private activities (for which bookings are essential)

So sit back and enjoy the hospitality of a small Karoo town.
